About

An integrated approach to industrial policy.

As Canada embarks on an ambitious series of nation-building projects, the role of industrial policy has never been more important. Strengthening Canada’s energy system, developing its resources, and diversifying its trade are all key elements in delivering a more prosperous future for Canadians. The right approach can help secure economic sovereignty and achieve climate competitiveness, but without a coordinated strategy behind those efforts, we run the risk of undertaking projects that add up to less than the sum of their parts.

The Centre for Industrial Policy (CIP) exists to help create an integrated vision of our future economy, and to develop practical policies to make that vision a reality. Chaired by David Wolfe, professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, the CIP brings researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders together with the country’s best analytical talent to provide an unbiased assessment of Canada’s industrial policy: where it’s working, and how it can be improved.

The decisions we make today will determine Canada’s global standing in the decades to come. By connecting systems-level strategy with high-quality information and rigorous analysis, we’re working to ensure Canada’s leaders are ready for the challenge.

An Initiative of the Transition Accelerator

The energy transition is disrupting global power. The Transition Accelerator is here to help Canada win — economically and geopolitically. We’re harnessing the global shift towards clean growth to secure permanent jobs, abundant energy, and strong regional economies across the country.

We work with 300+ partner organizations to build out pathways to a prosperous low-carbon economy and avoid costly dead-ends along the way. By connecting systems-level thinking with real-world analysis, we’re enabling a more affordable, competitive, and resilient future for all Canadians.

Our initiatives include the Centre for Industrial Policy, Electrifying Canada, the Building Decarbonization Alliance, and the Calgary Region Hydrogen Hub. Follow us on LinkedIn and BlueSky, and learn more about our work at transitionaccelerator.ca
